Today was a two pass day!
We started at about 11,600 ft and had a steep (but relatively short, about 1 mile) climb up to West Maroon Pass at 12,500 ft.
The wildflowers along the way were spectacular!!! Hiking this trail in July is ideal in my opinion. Still some snow to make for great photos, wildflowers everywhere...
Just keep in mind everyone else also thinks July is a great time to hike this trail! See the photo and video of the crowd on top of West Maroon Pass and you will get the picture...
There really aren't any camping options between West Maroon Pass and Frigid Air Pass. It's also a relatively short hike between the two passes (about 2.5 miles).
Climbing down from Frigid Air Pass you descend about 1900 feet into Fravert Basin. You will meet up with and hike along the North Fork Crystal River, where we chose to make camp for day 2. Once again, the wildflowers along this stretch of trail were beautiful.
